Hybrid & Ceramic Bearings

Ceramic-ball bearings for high speeds, high temperatures, electrical insulation and applications with little or no lubrication.

Hybrid bearing with white ceramic balls in a steel ring

Hybrid vs. full ceramic bearings

Hybrid bearings combine steel rings with ceramic rolling elements, usually silicon nitride (Si3N4). Ceramic balls are about 60% lighter than steel balls, harder and very smooth, so they generate less centrifugal force and heat at high speed and can run with less lubricant. Full ceramic bearings, with rings made of silicon nitride or zirconia as well, go a step further for corrosive, non-magnetic or extreme-temperature conditions.

Because ceramic does not conduct electricity, hybrid bearings are widely used in electric motors and generators driven by frequency inverters, where stray currents would otherwise cause electrical erosion (fluting) in the raceways. Other typical uses are high-speed spindles, turbo machinery, vacuum and semiconductor equipment, and medical devices.

Tell us the bearing size, speed, temperature and the problem you want to solve (speed limit, heat, current passage or corrosion), and we will propose a hybrid or full ceramic solution with price and delivery.

Typical applications

  • Inverter-driven electric motors & generators
  • High-speed machine-tool spindles
  • Turbo blowers & compressors
  • Vacuum & semiconductor equipment
  • Medical & dental devices
  • Pumps for corrosive media
  • Robotics & high-precision drives

Key features & benefits

  • Higher speed capability with lower friction and heat
  • Electrical insulation prevents current damage
  • Longer grease life, runs with minimal lubrication
  • Lighter, harder rolling elements
  • Full ceramic: corrosion resistant and non-magnetic
  • Good performance at high temperatures
